We are very delighted to announce that Prof Jason CS YAM has been appointed as a full Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), with effect from 1 Aug 2024.

Prof Yam joined the Department as an Assistant Professor in 2013. His dedication and expertise led to his promotion to Associate Professor in 2019. Throughout the years, Prof Yam has made remarkable accomplishments in the fields of children′s eye diseases, myopia, and retinoblastoma, earning him recognition within Hong Kong and around the world. These include the Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award 2019 by the Junior Chamber International Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Humanity Award 2021 by the Hong Kong Red Cross, the Josh Wallman Lecture 2022 by the International Myopia Conference, the Secretariat Award 2023 by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the prestigious De Ocampo Lecture 2024 by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology.

Under his leadership, the CUHK Jockey Club Myopia Prevention Programme (previous phase: CUHK Jockey Club Children Eye Care Programme) has provided free and comprehensive eye service to over 45,000 children and their families since 2015, and the LAMP Studies have established using low concentration atropine for myopia control and prevention, earning the team CUHK Outstanding Research Impact Award 2022/2023, and the recognition of ″China′s Important Medical Advancements in 2023″ by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

His immense contributions to children′s eye care through the many charity programmes he has spearheaded have also benefited innumerable children both locally and in the surrounding regions.
