The Grand Round provides an inter-regional education platform to uphold and progress the knowledge and skills essential for ophthalmologists and other eye-care professionals. It is a Continuous Medical Education (CME) activity accredited by the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong. It is open to all ophthalmologists and other eye-care professionals working in the public, private, and academia.
The DOVS CUHK takes the lead and jointly organises the weekly Grand Round with the Kowloon Central Cluster Ophthalmology Service (Hong Kong Eye Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital) and the New Territories East Cluster Ophthalmology Service (Prince of Wales Hospital and Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital). Every Thursday, our faculty members and ophthalmologists from the two clusters provide clinical and scientific lectures of various subspecialties, including cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic, pediatric ophthalmology, retina, neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, refractive surgery, genetics, and molecular sciences. In addition, international experts in ophthalmology, visual sciences, and other related disciplines are also regularly invited to speak in the grand round.
Throughout the decade, our Grand Round has made its global outreach. It is now broadcast live to JSIEC in Shantou, ten different Lifeline Express Microsurgical Training Centers in China, and the Grand Rounds videos′ website. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, our Ground Round continues to dedicate to the field via online platforms whiles providing flexibility to speakers and participants.
The APAO Grand Rounds Around the World is hosted by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) and co-hosted by the DOVS CUHK, the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, and the State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology of the Sun Yat-Sen University. This provides a real-time, web-conferencing platform for experts in the Asia-Pacific region to share their clinical experiences, research findings, and ideas.
