The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Simon KH SZETO, as Assistant Professor at the Department.
On welcoming Dr Szeto joining DOVS, the Chairman of the Department, Prof Clement CY THAM, remarked, ‶It is our great pleasure to have Dr Simon KH SZETO joining our DOVS family. Dr Szeto is a clinician-scientist with a strong track record in ophthalmic research and teaching, in particular in the field of vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery. I believe that Dr Szeto will be able to make substantial contributions towards our mission of advancing ophthalmic knowledge and care.″
Dr Szeto graduated from the Medicine Programme (MBChB) of the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CU Medicine) in 2012, and subsequently obtained a Diploma in Advances in Medicine from CU Medicine in 2017, and a Master′s degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MSc) from CUHK School of Public Health in 2021.
Dr Szeto′s research interests include (1) the clinical applications of retinal imaging in diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema; (2) novel vitreo-retinal surgical techniques; (3) myopic maculopathy of pathological myopia; (4) clinical applications of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis and monitoring of retinal diseases; and (5) the use of retinal imaging in rare medical retinal diseases. He has published more than 17 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, and two book chapters. Currently, he is also the principal investigator, first author, and co-investigator, of several on-going research programmes in retinal imaging and vitreo-retinal surgical techniques.
Dr Szeto has been actively participating in various international academic conferences, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting, the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress, and the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS) Annual Meeting.
