Dr Vickie LEE, Consultant Oculoplastic & Ophthalmic Surgeon and Ophthalmology Lead on Thyroid Eye Services at the Imperial College and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trusts, UK, visited the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 30 March 2023 and conducted the CUHK Grand Round cum Advances in Ophthalmology (AinO) series lecture on Thyroid Eye Disease.
Dr Lee is the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society National Lead for Thyroid Eye Disease and Principal Investigator of Imperial Horizon & Viridian Trials. Her lecture, ‶Navigating the complex changing landscape of Thyroid Eye Disease″, was jointly moderated by the Department’s Associate Professor, Dr Kelvin KL CHONG, and Clinical Professor (Honorary), Prof Hunter KL YUEN. At the panel discussion, Dr Lee had a fruitful exchange of her experience in handling various cases of Thyroid Eye Disease with discussants Dr Jason CM NG, Dr Alan CH LEE, Dr Joyce CHIN and Dr Karen CHAN. Over 150 participants physically and virtually attended the lecture.
The AinO series lecture is regularly conducted at the CUHK Grand Round, with presentations covering clinical trials, advances in disease detection, novel treatment modes, and new technologies. Prominent international speakers and local experts are invited to present this lecture.
Prior to the lecture, Dr Lee visited the Thyroid Eye Clinic at the Prince of Wales Hospital, which is the first dedicated medical service in Hong Kong pertaining to patients with Thyroid Eye Disease/Thyroid Associated Orbitopathy, the commonest orbital disease in adult worldwide. Dr Lee also toured the Eye Centre at the CUHK Medical Centre, the CUHK Eye Centre and DOVS ophthalmic research laboratories to better understand the work of DOVS.
