We are delighted that our Associate Professor, Dr Kelvin KL CHONG, along with Prof Elvis CS CHUI, Prof Patrick SH YUNG, Mr Ringo WH CHEUNG, Mr Kyle KW MAK, Mr Ericsson CH FUNG and Mr Randy HT NG from the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), were honoured with a bronze medal, in recognition of their invention of the Semi-Automated Imaging Reconstruction for Orbital Fracture Repair, at the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2023.
Performing orbital reconstruction has been a challenging and complex procedure, due to the intricacy and delicacy of orbital structures, and the limited view and access of bony defect. This award-winning software system and device can automatically detect and locate orbital fractures through analysing medical images, thereby significantly aiding the fabrication of anatomical models for fracture reconstruction.
At the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2023, the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK (CU Medicine) has received a total of 17 awards, including 7 Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals and 5 Bronze Medals (including Dr Chong’s Bronze Medal), demonstrating CU Medicine’s excellence in research and innovation on the global stage.
Founded in 1972, the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is the largest global exhibition devoted exclusively to inventions. The 48th Exhibition was held from 26 to 30 April 2023, in Geneva, Switzerland. All exhibited inventions have been evaluated by an international jury of specialists. This year the exhibition showcased over 1,000 inventions from 40 countries and regions.
