We are pleased to share that 7 Faculty Members and 10 Honorary Professors from the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have been ranked among the Top 100 Most Influential Ophthalmologists and Visual Scientists in the Asia-Pacific Region for 2025. Among the honorees, Prof Clement CY THAM, Chairman of the Department, has achieved the remarkable distinction of being ranked within the “Top 10” and also among the 20 ‶Asia-Pacific EyeCon21,″ a higher recognition for his exceptional achievements in shaping the world of ophthalmology in the 21st century in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
CUHK DOVS accounts for 12 of the 16 awardees from Hong Kong. Along with Prof Tham, other Faculty Members honoured include Prof Calvin CP PANG, S.H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences, Prof Guy LJ CHEN, Prof Jason CS YAM, Dr Carol YL CHEUNG, Dr Kelvin KL CHONG, and Dr CHU Wai Kit.
Our Honorary Professors have also received these prestigious recognitions. Among them, 3 Clinical Professors (Honorary), Prof Dennis SC LAM, Prof Kyoko OHNO-MATSUI, and Prof WONG Tien Yin, together with Prof WANG Ningli, Professor (Honorary), are among the ″Top 10″ and also among the 20 ‶Asia-Pacific EyeCon21″. Meanwhile, 4 Clinical Professors (Honorary), Prof Carmen KM CHAN, Prof Timothy YY LAI, Prof Alvin L YOUNG, Prof Hunter KL YUEN, and 2 Professors (Honorary), Prof SUN Xinghuai and Prof ZHANG Mingzhi are among the Asia-Pacific Eye 100.
The ‶Asia-Pacific Eye 100″ is organised by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO), the Academy of Asia-Pacific Professors of Ophthalmology (AAPPO), and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology (APJO). It aims to honour and celebrate the top 100 most influential and inspiring ophthalmologists and visual scientists from the Asia-Pacific region who have contributed significantly to the field of ophthalmology regionally and globally. This year, the awardees also include visual scientists, recognising their significant contributions towards advancing eye care and health.
In addition to the ‶Asia-Pacific Eye 100″, 20 ophthalmologists and visual scientists are honoured with the prestigious ‶Asia-Pacific EyeCon21″ title, which is a prestigious recognition for ophthalmologists and visual scientists who have made exceptional contributions to Ophthalmology in the 21st century.
