Members of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) were invited to participate in the CUHK-SAMS&SPPH Research Forum and to visit the Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences and Sichuan Provincial People′s Hospital (四川省醫學科學院), Human Disease Genes Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Department of Medical Genetics, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, from 20-23 February 2025.

The Forum was conducted by Prof YANG Zhenglin (楊正林院士), Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (中國科學院), Chancellor of Sichuan Provincial People′s Hospital (四川省人民醫院院長), and Party Secretary of Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences & Sichuan Provincial People′s Hospital (四川省醫學科學院, 四川省人民醫院黨委書記).  It was jointly organized by the Department of Ophthalmology, Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences and Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital (四川省醫學科學院, 四川省人民醫院) and attended by over 100 clinical and basic researchers.

The DOVS delegation included faculty members, research staff and students. Apart from speaking in the Advances in Ophthalmology Workshop of the Forum,  Prof Calvin CP PANG, S. H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences, Prof Guy LJ CHEN, and Prof Jason CS YAM, both Professors, Dr Kelvin KL CHONG and Dr CHU Wai Kit, both Assistant Professors, and Ms Pancy OS TAM, Laboratory Manager, alongside Prof CHEN Haoyu, Associate Director of the Joint Shantou International Eye Centre (JSIEC), contributed expert advice on ophthalmic service, discussed on advanced research in ophthalmic diseases and innovative developments in ophthalmology. The Forum concluded with a roundtable discussion on the future of ophthalmology, strategies for advancing research, improving patient care, and fostering national and international collaborations.
