DOVS Participates in ARVO Annual Meeting 2025

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong actively participated in the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO Annual Meeting 2025), held in Salt Lake City, Utah, from 4-8 May 2025.

A delegation of 19 representatives from DOVS, including five professors, four research staff, one visiting scholar, eight postgraduate students, and one undergraduate student, attended the meeting. They presented their latest research findings, took part in scientific discussions, and engaged in collaborative research meetings.

During the conference, Prof Calvin CP Pang, S.H. Ho Professor of Visual Sciences; Prof Jason CS Yam, Professor; Dr Carol YL Cheung, Dr Kelvin KL Chong, and Dr Chu Wai Kit, Associate Professors, along with other research staff and students, were invited to deliver presentations or undertake key roles at the event. In addition, Dr Emma A Ran, Scientific Officer, Dr Zhang Yuzhou, Postdoctoral Fellow, and Ms Li Yi, Postgraduate Student, were awarded ARVO Travel Grants in recognition of their outstanding research contributions.

To further strengthen international collaboration, the Department hosted a CUHK Reception Dinner on 6 May 2025, bringing together over 30 distinguished guests from 15 countries. The dinner, hosted by Prof Pang, Prof Yam, Dr Cheung, Dr Chong and Dr Chu, provided a valuable opportunity to reconnect with global partners and forge new academic ties.

The ARVO Annual Meeting 2025 is the premier global forum for eye and vision scientists to share the latest research findings and collaborate on innovative solutions. The ARVO Annual Meeting 2025 focused on how new information and technologies, including artificial intelligence, big data, CRISPR, mRNA technologies, sophisticated imaging modalities, virtual reality, and breakthroughs in gene therapy, are continually transforming vision research.

Here are some highlights of the Department’s contributions at the ARVO Annual Meeting 2025:
