In a newly released database published jointly by Stanford University and academic publishing company Elsevier, professors at the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), have been recognised as part of the top 2% of most-cited scientists globally in the field of ophthalmology and optometry for the year 2024. This recognition highlights their innovative research and significant contributions to the academic community.

Among those honoured are Department Chairman Prof Clement CY THAM; S. H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences, Prof Calvin CP PANG; Professors, Prof Guy LJ CHEN, Prof Carol YL CHEUNG and Prof Jason CS YAM; Notably, Prof Pang and Prof Cheung have also been recognised for their career-long impact, reflecting their dedicated service in fostering innovation and academic excellence.

We are also proud to acknowledge our Honorary Professors, including Clinical Professors (Honorary) Prof AUNG Tin, Prof FAN Xianqun, Prof Jost BH JONAS, Prof Timothy YY LAI, Prof Dennis SC LAM, Prof Kyoko OHNO-MATSUI, Prof WONG Tien Yin, and Honorary Professors Prof SUN Xinghuai and Prof WANG Ningli, for being recognised in both the 2024 and career impact citation categories.

The database, compiled by a team led by Prof John PA IOANNIDIS at Stanford University, is based on data from the 1 August 2025 snapshot of Scopus, including information up to the end of 2024. The full database is accessible here.
