The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) recently hosted a CME Lecture on Corneal Diseases on 26 August 2023. The lecture was given by guest speakers Prof SHI Weiyun, Director of Shandong Eye Hospital and President of China Cornea Society; Prof LI Suxia, Head of the Cornea Department of Shandong Eye Hospital; and Dr ZHANG Bining, Associate Professor from Shandong Eye Institute. The lecture was expertly moderated by Dr Vanissa WS CHOW, CUHK DOVS’ Clinical Associate Professor (Honorary), who is also Consultant and Cornea Subspecialty Coordinator at Hong Kong Eye Hospital.
During the lecture, Prof Shi gave an insightful presentation on “Keratoplasty in Unconventional Cases“, that he shared innovative approaches in corneal transplantation for unconventional cases. Following that, Prof Li shared valuable insights on “Lamellar Keratoplasty for Fungal Keratitis“, focusing on specific surgical techniques for treating fungal cornea infections. Lastly, Dr Zhang discussed “The role of corneal endothelium in macular corneal dystrophy development and recurrence“, highlighting the significance of corneal endothelium in progression and recurrence of macular corneal dystrophy. The lecture ended with an interactive Q&A session. The lecture proved to be incredibly informative and fruitful, with all speakers and participants engaging in valuable exchanges and discussions.
Before the lecture, Prof Shi, Prof Li, and Dr Zhang, along with Dr Howard Cajucom-Uy YU, from the Singapore Eye Bank, Singapore National Eye Centre, visited the Hong Kong Eye Hospital, CUHK Eye Centre, Hong Kong Eye Bank, and CUHK DOVS Ophthalmic Research Laboratories, which facilitated fruitful exchanges between guests and CUHK DOVS staff and students.
