Congratulations to CUHK Professors on APAO Awards

Professors of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), have been honoured for their remarkable contributions at the 40th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress (APAO 2025 Congress) in Delhi, India.

Prof Guy LJ CHEN and Dr Poemen PM CHAN have been awarded the Distinguished Service Awards 2025 for their leadership and commitment, significantly advancing ophthalmic practice and patient care.

Prof Chen expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the recognition and support from the Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society and the Department, “I am truly grateful to APAO for this wonderful recognition and encouragement. I am also very grateful to the Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society for the very kind nomination. It is a thankful experience to incorporate my clinical services together with research and teaching, which forms a three-in-one model that leads to my humble achievements.”

Dr Chan, Associate Professor, who serves as a committee member of the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society (APGS), shared his thoughts, “I am deeply appreciative of APGS’s nomination and support, and the opportunity to contribute to all those impactful programmes which drive forward advancements in glaucoma research and patient care.”

Dr Kelvin KL CHONG, Associate Professor, has been awarded the Best Scientific Paper Award for his outstanding research and exceptional high-quality free paper abstract in the subspecialty of Orbital and Oculoplastic Surgery. He remarked, “This award is a testament to our team’s collaborative efforts and the Department’s support.”

Prof Chen, Dr Chan and Dr Chong also thanked the tremendous support from the Department, especially Prof Clement CY THAM and Prof Calvin CP PANG, as well as the entire team.

Dr Aziz KW KAM, Clinical Assistant Professor (Honorary), has been honoured with the prestigious Achievement Award for his contributions to the scientific programmes of the APAO Congresses over many years.

Ms Alicia HY Liu, a Year 3 CUHK medical student who works closely with the Department, received the Best Scientific Paper Award in the subspecialty of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, highlighting her research achievements and potential in ophthalmology.
