In a newly released database published jointly by Stanford University and academic publishing company Elsevier, several professors from the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), have been recognized as part of the top 2% of most-cited scientists globally in the field of ophthalmology and optometry for the year 2023. This recognition highlights their innovative research and significant contributions to the academic community.

Among those honoured are Department Chairman Prof Clement CY THAM; S. H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences, Prof Calvin CP PANG; Professors, Prof Guy LJ CHEN and Prof Jason CS YAM; Associate Professor, Dr Carol YL CHEUNG; Additionally, Clinical Professors (Honorary),  Prof Vishal JHANJI, Prof Timothy YY LAI, Prof Dennis SC LAM, Prof LIN Haotian, Prof Mark OM TSO, Prof Alvin L YOUNG, as well as Honorary Professors, Prof SUN Xinghuai and Prof WANG Ningli, have also been acknowledged.

Notably, considering their life-long career impact, Prof Calvin CP PANG, Dr Carol YL CHEUNG, Prof Timothy YY LAI, Prof Dennis SC LAM, Prof Mark OM TSO, Prof SUN Xinghuai and Prof WANG Ningli have been distinguished among the top 2% of scientists (career impact) from 1960 to 2023. This ranking reflects their sustained excellence in research and significant influence throughout their careers.

The database, compiled by a team led by Prof John PA Ioannidis at Stanford University, is based on data from the 1 August 2024 snapshot of Scopus, including information up to the end of 2023. The full database is accessible here.
