We have the pleasure to announce that our three postgraduate students received the awards from the David Sung Memorial Scholarship in Ophthalmology Scientific Scholarship 2021.

David Sung Memorial Scholarship in Ophthalmology Scientific Scholarship was set up by Professor Joseph JY SUNG and his family in memory of Prof SUNG′s beloved father, Mr David SUNG, to recognize excellent research achievement for PhD students of DOVS.

The award selection this year is based on evidence of research excellence in science (clinical and basic) from 1 September 2020 to 31 August 2021, and the potential to become an outstanding scientist. After full assessment of the track records and oral presentation from the applicants, the Selection Committee, including Prof Joseph SUNG, Prof Clement CY THAM and Prof Guy LJ CHEN, has determined to award Mr Gabriel D YANG as ″Scientific Scholar 2021″, and award Ms WANG Yuyao and Mr LING Xiangtian as ″Certificate of Merit″.

Mr Gabriel D YANG, the recipient of the ″Scientific Scholar″, says ″I would like to express my immense gratitude to Prof Joseph SUNG, Prof Clement CY THAM and Prof Guy LJ CHEN for awarding me this scholarship. I am also deeply grateful to be supervised by Dr Carol YL CHEUNG and work closely with all my team members who dedicate their significant effort and support throughout my PhD years. I am also immensely thankful to Prof Joseph SUNG, Prof Clement CY THAM and all the supervisors for providing all students with precious opportunity in ophthalmic research in DOVS, and have always been the inspiration to all students by their endeavor to encourage excellence in the quality of academic output. I received this award with my humblest heart and earnestly hope to continue to embrace science and true in the future.″

Ms WANG Yuyao, the recipient of ″Certificate of Merit″, says ″I greatly appreciate to receive the award ″Certificate of Merit″ in Ophthalmology Scientific Scholarship. Many thanks to Prof Joseph SUNG, Prof Clement CY THAM and Prof Guy LJ CHEN. Thank all professors and colleagues for your support. I want to express my profound gratitude to Prof Calvin CP PANG, Prof Guy LJ CHEN, Dr Jason CS YAM, Dr ZHANG Xiujuan, Ms Pancy TAM, Dr Shiyao LU, Zhenji, Mia and all my team members for their support and guidance. Mr LING Xiangtian, the recipient of ″Certificate of Merit″, says ″I′m deeply grateful for the award. Sincere thanks to Prof Joseph SUNG, Prof Clement CY THAM and Prof Guy LJ CHEN for awarding me the certificate. My thanks also go to all professors and colleagues for all their help.
