The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), working with more than 200 ophthalmologists and visual scientists in Hong Kong and mainland China, is committed to advancing patient services, research, and training and education to the highest quality in all major areas of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. DOVS, always “in search of excellence”, is looking for candidates to take up positions in our clinical and research (academic, community and translational) programmes involving ophthalmic investigations, public education, out-reach, and ophthalmic studies on disease entities, including COVID-19, children eye diseases autoimmune diseases, ocular surface diseases, refractive errors, ocular cancers, dry eye disease, thyroid eye diseases, glaucoma, and retina diseases. Academic Position(s)

Administrative Position(s)

The appointee(s) will be responsible for (a) preparing documents and handling administrative tasks for the Research Office; (b) providing daily office operational support; and (c) performing other tasks as assigned. In-house training will be provided where appropriate.

Clinical Position(s)

The appointee(s) will be responsible for (a) participating in optometric duties and providing support to clinical services and research activities on weekdays; and outreach school eye screenings, community services and eye screening programmes to be held on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays; and (b) performing basic eye examinations, refraction and squint measurements. On-the-job training will be provided for performing ophthalmic investigative procedures where appropriate.

Applicants should have/be (i) a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Orthoptics, or equivalent, from a recognized university or technical institute; (ii) eligible for registration with the United Kingdom Health and Care Professional Council or Australian Orthoptic Board; (iii) proficiency in English and Chinese (including Cantonese); and (iv) a self-motivated, hardworking and honest attitude, and a strong sense of responsibility. Research Position(s)

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Medicine or life science-related disciplines; (ii) proficiency in English and Cantonese; (iii) keen interest in research work in the field of ophthalmology and visual sciences; (iv) strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; and (v) self-motivation and co-operative ability to work independently and as a team. Those who are registered as Chinese Medicine Practitioner under the Chinese Medicine Ordinance (Cap. 549) and with  relevant experience in clinical/ laboratory/ statistical studies is preferred. Both local and overseas applications are welcome.

The appointees are expected to assist in the research of Chinese medicine treatment for dry eye disease. He/She will also assist in clinical and research-based programmes of the team on other eye diseases (thyroid eye diseases, COVID-19 related eye diseases, eye trauma, etc.).

Duties include (a) providing assistance in carrying out the clinical study (literature reviews, logistic support, data collection, data management, and data analysis etc.); (b) providing assistance in laboratory work (specimen collection, processing, and storage etc.); and (c) performing other duties as assigned.
