The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is honoured to participate in the 29th Congress of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society (CCOS2025) (中華醫學會第29次眼科學術大會), held from 4 to 7 September 2025 in Hangzhou. The congress provided a valuable platform for sharing expertise in ophthalmic research, clinical practice, and training.
Prof Clement CY THAM, Chairman of the DOVS, hosted the Cross-Strait and Hong Kong-Macau Academic Exchange Symposium. Fellow DOVS members, including Prof Calvin CP PANG, S. H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences; Prof Jason CS YAM, Professor; Dr Kelvin KL CHONG and Dr CHU Wai Kit, both Associate Professors; Prof Hunter KL YUEN and Prof Carmen KM CHAN, both Clinical Professors (Honorary); Prof ZHANG Mingzhi, Professors (Honorary), Dr Vanissa WS CHOW, Clinical Associate Professors (Honorary), and Dr ZHANG Yuzhou, Postdoc Fellow, contributed in other sessions by presenting a wide range of topics in the areas of their research and clinical expertise.
On 6 September 2025, we joined hands with Westlake University to host the Westlake University and CUHK Symposium in Ophthalmic Research at Hangzhou First People′s Hospital. Lectures were delivered by Prof Tham, alongside Prof CHEN Haoyu, Associate Director of Joint Shantou International Eye Centre of Shantou University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Presentations also featured Dr LI Jian, our DOVS alumnus, on eye research in Hangzhou Hospital, Prof QIU Nasha, and Prof HUANG Jiao, covering collaborative research, nanomaterials in ocular diseases, and multidisciplinary approaches to ophthalmic care.
CCOS2025 is China′s leading ophthalmic congress, bringing together over 10,000 ophthalmologists and clinician-scientists. The event fostered rich academic exchanges and strengthened partnerships across institutions. We look forward to continuing our contributions to these ophthalmic innovations and collaborations.
