The CUHK DOVS 30th Anniversary Dinner

The CUHK DOVS 30th Anniversary Dinner was held in conjunction with the 16th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS) Gala Dinner on 9 December 2023 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Our Guest of Honor, Prof the Honourable Arthur KC LI, GBM, GBS, JP, Non-official Member of Executive Council, along with Prof Clement CY THAM, Chairman of our Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), Prof Dennis SC LAM, our former Department Chairman, our Faculty Members, our staff and students, and over 350 distinguished guests, participated to celebrate this significant milestone of our Department.

As the Former Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Medicine, CUHK, Professor Li said he was proud to have witnessed the development and growth of DOVS, from the very first academic ophthalmology department in Hong Kong to a leading institution in ophthalmic research, education, and training. He believed DOVS will continue to thrive, achieve new milestones, and make more remarkable contributions in the years to come.

Prof the Honourable Arthur KC LI affirmed that the APVRS Congress has created a valuable platform to advance ophthalmology, and also promote collaboration and understanding among different cultures and regions.

Prof Tham thanked all honourable guests, donors, collaborators, and the community for their tremendous support to ophthalmic advancements in Hong Kong and at CUHK. He assured DOVS′ dedication to making a positive impact on advancements in ophthalmic care and the visual sciences, and is determined to persist with its continuing mission to fight preventable blindness and visual impairment.

In addition, DOVS joint hands with the Asia-Pacific Ocular Imaging Society (APOIS), Asia-Pacific Society of Eye Genetics (APSEG), The College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society, to co-host The 16th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS), which took place from 8-10 December 2023 at HKCEC. Prof Tham, along with our academic staff, Prof Guy LJ CHEN, Dr Carol YL CHEUNG, Dr Jason CS YAM, Dr Poemen PM CHAN, Dr CHU Wai Kit, and Prof CHEN Haoyu presented their innovative research studies in the Congress.

The Chairs of the CUHK Symposium, Prof Clement CY THAM, Dr Jason CS YAM, and Dr Simon KH SZETO introduced the speakers to guests.

DOVS looks forward to achieving even more new milestones in the years to come!
