DOVS participates in ARVO Annual Meeting 2023

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong has actively engaged in the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO Annual Meeting 2023), 23 -27 April 2023, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. It was an 18-strong delegation from the Department: 5 Professors, 5 research staff, 7 postgraduate students, and 1 undergraduate student, presenting their research findings, taking research meetings and engaging in scientific interactions.

Apart from joining the lectures and presentation sessions, Prof Calvin CP PANG, along with Dr Carol YL CHEUNG, Dr Jason CS YAM, Dr CHU Wai Kit, and Dr ZHANG Xiujuan, hosted a CUHK Reception Dinner on 26 April 2023 to enhance connections with international friends and collaborators. There were more than 30 international guests, who are prominent ophthalmologists, vision scientists, institution leaders and health services providers from more than 20 institutions across over 15 countries. Prominent guests included Dr Gyan ′John PRAKASH (National Eye Institute (NEI), USA ), Dr Wei LI (NEI), Prof Terri L YOUNG (The University of Wisconsin, USA), Prof Janey L WIGGS (Harvard Medical School, USA), Prof Chris HAMMOND (King′s College London, UK), Prof Pirro HYSI (King′s College London, UK), Prof David MACKEY (University of Western Australia (UWA), Australia), Prof CHENG Ching Yu (Singapore), Prof G KUMAR (Chennai), Prof P NATARAJAN (Mumbai), Prof Takeshi IWATA (Tokyo), Prof Motokazu TSUJIKAWA (Osaka), Prof Chen ZHAO (Shanghai), Dr Yun LIU (Google LLC, USA), Dr Stela VUJOSEVIC (University Eye Clinic, San Giuseppe Hospital Milan, Italy) and Dr Siegfried WAGNER (University College London (UCL), UK). We are so glad that our alumni, Prof Vishal JHANJI (currently at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt), USA), Dr Gary YAM (currently at Pitt, USA), Dr RONG Shisong (currently at the Harvard Medical School, USA) and Dr ZHANG Liyun (currently at the Johns Hopkins University, USA) also joined the very happy occasion.

ARVO is one of the biggest and most established vision research organisations worldwide. ARVO′s membership is multidisciplinary, with approximately 12,000 researchers from over 75 countries. The Annual Meeting is an important occasion for clinicians and researchers to meet and share their latest research findings.
