The Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Service of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences operates at both the Hong Kong Eye Hospital and the Prince of Wales Hospital, the teaching hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Our four Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Subspecialty Clinics serve the populations living in Kowloon and the eastern region of the New Territories in Hong Kong, and are well attended by over 150 patients each week. Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Fellows of the CUHK-HKEH-PWH International Ophthalmology Fellowship Programme will actively participate in all clinical services and various research projects. During the Fellowship, each Fellow should aim to be the Principal Investigator of at least 1 pediatric ophthalmology research project at CUHK. At the conclusion of the Fellowship, each Fellow should be confident in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders of childhood and adult strabismus problems, and should have at least 1 publication as first author arising from research done during his / her CUHK Fellowship.

  • Up to 4 Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Clinics per week at Hong Kong Eye Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital
  • At least 1 Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Operating List per week
  • At least 2 Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening sessions per month
  • At least 2 Orthoptic sessions per month
  • Multidisciplinary Retinoblastoma clinic once a month
  • Horizontal extraocular muscle surgery
  • Vertical extraocular muscle surgery

  • Pediatric cataract and ectopia lentis

The CUHK Pediatric Ophthalmology Subspecialty has strong track record in research on the treatment of pediatric cataract and ectopia lentis. We have carried out studies on primary intraocular lens implantation for infants, prevention and management of posterior capsule opacification and management of uveitic cataract in children. We also published a series of study on management of ectopia lentis from scleral fixation of intraocular lens to the use of capsular tension ring. We also have written review article on the subject.
