Our MBChB-GPS Student Has Received the “Innovation & Technology Scholarship 2021”

Vincent L.C. YUEN, our MBChB-GPS Year 4 student, has received the ‶Innovation & Technology Scholarship 2021″ for his work at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Founded by the Innovation and Technology Commission, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the scholarship selects 25 undergraduates with enthusiasm in innovation and technology each year and encompasses an exchange allowance of HK$150,000 together with a full range of support for further developments in innovation and technology.

Vincent has worked under the supervision of Dr. Carol YL CHEUNG and her team since his first month of medical school and his research focus is the use of artificial intelligence in ophthalmology for disease screening and ocular image quality control. His latest project at the Department has successfully trained a ‶three-in-one″ artificial intelligence deep learning-based algorithm to distinguish the laterality-of-the-eye, field-of-view, and image-quality of fundus images. His findings have been presented at the 35th Singapore-Malaysia Joint Meeting in Ophthalmology in conjunction with the 1st Asia-Pacific Ocular Imaging Society Meeting and his manuscript, of which he is one of the two co-first authors, has been accepted by the peer-reviewed journal Translational Vision Science & Technology

This award is a great encouragement and recognition of Vincent′s passion and commitment in ophthalmology research.

Congratulations and well done, Vincent!
