We are very delighted to share with you that Prof Guy LJ CHEN has been promoted to Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), with effect from 1 August 2022.
Prof Chen is actively working on ophthalmic research. His major research interest is molecular and clinical genetics of major eye diseases, including macular and retinal diseases (e.g., age-related macular degeneration, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, central serous chorioretinopathy, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, and other inherited retinal dystrophies), glaucoma, and myopia. He is also working on the genetic profiling of myopia progression and ocular traits development in children. Prof Chen and co-workers have identified a large number of new disease genes/loci, mutations, association profiles, and biomarkers for major eye diseases. He has published over 150 articles in international peer review journals, with a H-index of 45.
“Ever since Guy joined CUHK as our PhD student way back in 2007, he has made tremendous progress in becoming a world-renowned clinician scientist in the fields of ophthalmic genetics, vitreoretinal diseases, and children eye diseases screening & prevention. In addition, Guy has been the Head of the Graduate Division of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at CUHK since 2017, being in charge of all our postgraduate degree programmes in DOVS. Guy has received numerous major local and international Awards in recognition of his accomplishments, including the Distinguished Young Fellow award and Best Original Research of Trainee Gold Medal Award from the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS) Constable Lecture Award, just to name a few.
