Heartiest Congratulations To Dr Jason CS YAM For Receiving The Hong Kong Humanity Award 2021

We are much delighted to announce that our Associate Professor Dr Jason CS YAM, nominated by Prof Clement CY THAM and Prof Andrew CHAN, has received the Hong Kong Humanity Award 2021 from the Hong Kong Red Cross and Radio Television Hong Kong on the 15th of January 2022. Since 2007, this award was given each year to up to 6 individuals who exemplify the spirit of humanity by putting it into practice and action.

Dr Yam and his team believe it is a basic right for every child to see the world clearly, regardless of their social status, family background or ethnicity. His team research on effective method using low concentration atropine eye drops to slow down childhood myopia progression to prevent our next generations from developing eye diseases due to high myopia in future. In 2015, his team has launched the ‶CUHK Hong Kong Children Eye Care Programme″ (current third phase named as ‶CUHK Jockey Club Myopia Prevention Programme″) to provide free and comprehensive eye examination services for children in need from 6 to 8 years old. In the past 7 years, over 400 weekends, more than 30,000 children and their families have been benefited from the programme.
