The highly anticipated 28th Congress of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society (CCOS2024) (中華醫學會第28次眼科學術大會), held in Wuhan from 4 to 8 September 2024, has concluded successfully. Professors from the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), were invited to share their expertise and insights on ophthalmic research and services.
In the Congress, Prof Clement CY THAM, our Department Chairman, presented a Welcome Speech at the Congress Opening Ceremony, in his capacity as the Secretary General & CEO of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO). Prof Tham also delivered a Keynote lecture in the Opening Symposium, entitled ″When is Lens Extraction Alone not Enough for Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma?″, providing valuable perspectives on advanced treatment strategies for this challenging eye disease. Prof Calvin CP PANG, S. H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences, delivered a lecture, entitled ″Multi-faceted Advancements in Detection and Identification of Retinal Anomalies in Ocular Fundus Diseases″, highlighting cutting-edge techniques and innovations in retinal disease diagnostics. Prof Jason CS YAM also delivered lectures to share his research works on Hong Kong Children Eye Studies as well as Low-concentration Atropine for Myopia Progression (LAMP-1) and Low-concentration Atropine for Myopia Prevention (LAMP-2) in the context of myopia management.
CCOS2024 is the largest and most prominent ophthalmic congress in China. Renowned ophthalmologists from around the world were invited to present their clinical and research findings. The Congress comprised a total of 18 sections, over 500 presentations, and 180 seminars. More than 15,000 ophthalmology specialists exchanged knowledge and ideas on topics ranging from basic research to clinical applications.
