The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has granted the Provost′s Strategic Allocation of Centrally-funded RPg Places for 2025-26 Admission to Prof Jason CS YAM, Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS). This recognition honours Prof Yam′s outstanding accomplishments, including his recently announced receipt of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (國家傑出青年科學基金) from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) (國家自然科學基金委員會).
Under this grant, the University will support a full-time Research Postgraduate (RPg) working with Prof Yam on his myopia research project. This special grant not only celebrates Prof Yam′s accomplishments but also provides an invaluable opportunity for aspiring young researchers to pursue their research under the guidance of a distinguished scholar.
Prof Yam expressed his gratitude for the tremendous support from the University. ″This initiative will significantly enhance our research capacity, especially in implementing our proposal for the NSFC′s Distinguished Young Scholars on Myopia Prevention.″
Prof Clement CY THAM, Chairman of the Department, appreciated the support from the University, saying, ″We are very proud of Prof Yam′s achievements and grateful for the immense support from our University and Faculty for his programme, as well as many other ongoing initiatives in the DOVS over so many years!″
Prof Calvin CP PANG also recognized Prof Yam′s accomplishments and anticipated further achievements, stating, ″Prof Yam′s extraordinary capabilities will undoubtedly lead to more advancements in ophthalmology and visual sciences in the future.″
