Congratulations to Prof Carol YL CHEUNG For Promotion To Professor

We are delighted to announce that Prof Carol YL CHEUNG has been promoted to Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), effective 1 August 2025.

Prof Cheung is an internationally recognized scientist and academic leader in the field of ocular imaging, with nearly 20 years of experience in developing and applying state-of-the-art image analysis techniques, including artificial intelligence (AI), for studying major eye and systemic diseases. She joined CUHK in 2015 and has served as an Associate Professor since 2021.

Prof Cheung′s remarkable achievements have earned her widespread recognition. She has authored over 390 research articles, with an H-index of 92 and more than 28,400 citations on Google Scholar. She has delivered more than 130 invited lectures globally. In 2023, she ranked among the world′s top 2% of the most-cited scientists in the ophthalmology and optometry discipline based on the Stanford University-Elsevier Database, and she was listed among the world’s top 2% scientists (career impact) from 1960 to 2023.

I am also thankful to my colleagues, research team, and students—their dedication and passion are the foundation of our work. I look forward to continuing this journey together, pushing boundaries, translating discoveries into impact, and using innovation to serve communities worldwide.” Prof Cheung remarked.
