DOVS Signs MoU with Wenzhou Medical University

We are pleased to share that the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the School of Ophthalmology & Optometry and the affiliated Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (WMU SOO & Eye Hospital) on 14 June 2025, during the Vision China 2025 conference in Xi’an, China.

Signed by Prof Clement CY THAM, Chairman of CUHK DOVS and Secretary ZHANG Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee (黨委書記), WMU, the MoU brings together the complementary strengths of both institutions, paving the way for bidirectional innovation in global eye health.

“We are deeply honoured to strengthen our collaboration with the WMU. This partnership represents a synergistic cooperation, and we anticipate accelerated progress in technological innovation.” stated Prof Tham.

Secretary Zhang Jian added, “This collaboration will undoubtedly enrich our academic landscape and foster global innovation in ophthalmology and visual sciences.”

The ceremony was attended by representatives from both institutions, including Prof Calvin CP PANG, S. H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences, Prof Jason CS YAM, Professor of the DOVS, alongside Prof XU Dan, Vice President & Professor of the WMU, Prof CHEN Jiangfan, Professor of the WMU, Prof YE Cong, Deputy Director of the Glaucoma Center of the WMU, and Dr XU Xiaoqi, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Department of the WMU.

We are also honoured to have participated in Vision China 2025, one of the most prominent conferences in ophthalmology and visual sciences in China which was held from 12 to 15 June 2025 at the Xi’an International Convention Center, Xi’an. This conference attracted more than 10,000ophthalmologists and visual scientists worldwide, including the US, the UK, Germany, Singapore, Japan, Africa, and China. Prof Pang was invited to present a keynote lecture titled “Impact Outputs in Interdisciplinary Ophthalmic Research”, along with two invited talks on research in children myopia and glaucoma. In addition, Prof Tham and Prof Yam presented invited talks on glaucoma and children eye studies, respectively.

We look forward to the promising journey ahead with WMU SOO & Eye Hospital, and anticipate impactful advancements in ophthalmology through this partnership.
