The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Ocular Trauma of the Tianjin Medical University (TMU), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 13 June 2023 to establish ″The Joint Eye Research Centre of Tianjin Key Laboratory of Ocular Trauma and Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong″ (″Joint Eye Research Centre″). The MoU was signed by Prof Clement CY THAM, Chairman of CUHK DOVS and Prof YAN Hua, Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Tianjin Medical University General Hospital and President of the Tianjin Medical University.
The MoU Signing Ceremony marked a major milestone in developing an important cooperation and exchange between CUHK DOVS and TMU. The establishment of the Joint Research Eye Centre aims to fully cross-utilise the strengths and potentials of both CUHK DOVS and TMU for advancements of scientific research and training to the top-tier international level; to promote advancement in basic research in ophthalmology and visual sciences in CUHK DOVS and TMU; and to establish more multi-centre studies for clinical research. Following the establishment of the Joint Eye Research Centre, academic exchanges between CUHK DOVS and TMU will be strengthened, and the development, competitiveness, and international academic status of both CUHK DOVS and TMU will be greatly enhanced.
The MoU Signing Ceremony was attended by TMU representatives, including Prof WANG Xiaohong, Principal Investigator, Laboratory of Molecular Ophthalmology, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Ocular Trauma, TMU, Dr ZHOU Wei, Associate Deputy Chief Ophthalmologist of the Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, and Dr GUO Miao, Doctor of Medicine, TMU.
DOVS Professors Prof Calvin CP PANG, Prof Guy LJ CHEN, Prof Hunter KL YUEN, Dr CHU Wai Kit and the DOVS Ophthalmic Research Laboratory Manager Ms Pancy OS TAM also attended the MoU Signing Ceremony.
After the MoU Signing Ceremony, Prof Yan and his team toured the research, training and clinical facilities of DOVS at the Hong Kong Eye Hospital.
DOVS is looking forward to developing more close and fruitful collaborations with TMU in the near future.
