In great delight we announce that Joint Shantou International Eye Center of Shantou University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (JSIEC) is bestowed the status of Hospital of Grade 3 Level A (i.e. 三級甲等醫院， 簡稱三甲醫院) by the Health Commission of Guangdong Province (廣東省衞生健康委員會) with effect on 15 June 2022.

In Classification of Chinese hospitals (醫院分級管理法) by the Ministry of Health of the People′s Republic of China, based on the level of service provision, size, medical technology, medical equipment, and management and medical quality, hospitals are divided into Grades 1, 2 and 3 in ascending order and subdivided into 3 subsidiary levels: A, B and C. Hospital of Grade 3 Level A (三級甲等醫院) is the highest class.

Since its inauguration in 2002, the JSIEC, at its present premises with a floor area of about 10,000 square meters, has developed into a major eye center in southern China, providing ophthalmic service to over 20 million people in Shantou and the surrounding regions. We strive to excel in patient service, research, training, education and community service.
