Prof Guy LJ CHEN, Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), was recently interviewed by RTHK on 1 September 2025 and delivered an invited GENE Club lecture at the Hong Kong Genome Institute (HKGI) located at the Hong Kong Science Park on 4 September 2025. He was invited as an awardee of the HKAM-HKGI Research Excellence Grant in Genomic Medicine 2023-24, a grant jointly introduced by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Academy) and HKGI, aiming to encourage and support initiatives of research in the field of genetic and genomic medicine conducted by young Fellows and higher specialist trainees of the Academy. The GENE Club, where GENE refers to Genomic Exchange for Nurturing Excellence, brings together clinicians and scientists from HKGI and Partnering Centers, all of whom are committed to advancing their understanding in the field of genomic medicine.
During the interview and lecture, Prof Chen shared his pioneering research on myopia, addressing both clinical and genetic aspects. His project investigates how genetic factors influence the development of myopia, contributing to improved understanding and potential treatment strategies. The session concluded with a fruitful discussion among attendees.
