Mr Dragon YL WONG, our MBChB-GPS Year 5 student, has received the ″Innovation & Technology Scholarship 2022″ for his work at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
Being one of the largest and most distinguished university scholarships in Hong Kong, the scholarship offers outstanding undergraduates an exchange allowance of HK$150,000 to widen their international exposure, gain industry experience, and nurture their passion and commitment toward science and technology, together with other support such as mentorship programmes.
Dragon has worked under the supervision of Dr Carol YL CHEUNG and her team since Year 3. His research focuses on evaluating the application of deep learning in fundus image analysis for cardiovascular disease prediction. He has recently presented his findings at the 2nd Asia-Pacific Ocular Imaging Society Meeting and the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
With the support of the scholarship, he travelled to Duke University, USA for clinical attachment in ophthalmology in May 2022. He is also involved in other collaborative projects investigating the application of artificial intelligence in diabetic macular edema detection.
Congratulations to Dragon!
