The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has actively engaged in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Visual Science and Neuroscience Conference (GBA-VSNS 2025) held on 1 Mar 2025 at the Jinan University, Guangzhou. This conference aimed to foster academic exchanges and collaborations in the fields of ophthalmology and neuroscience, bringing together experts and scholars to discuss cutting-edge research and future development directions.
Organized by the Jinan University and Guangdong-HongKong-Macau Institute of CNS Regeneration (GHMICR), CUHK is one of the co-organizers, with Prof Clement CY THAM, Chairman of the DOVS, and Prof Calvin CP PANG, S. H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences, serving as conference advisors. The DOVS team made significant contributions with their presentations. Prof Jason CS YAM, Professor of the Department, discussed the Low Concentration Atropine for Myopia Control and Prevention; Dr HE Qinghua, Research Assistant Professor, presented an AI model for detecting diabetic macular ischemia; Dr Emma A RAN, Scientific Officer, showcased her work on AI techniques for Alzheimer′s Disease Detection from Retinal Optical Coherence Tomography; Dr ZHANG Yuzhou, Postdoc Fellow, explored how parental myopia affects childhood myopia progression.
Additionally, Dr TANG Ziqi, Research Assistant, along with several PhD students, namely Ms ZHENG Chunwen, Mr LIU Xujia, Ms Li Yi, Ms LI Yingan, Ms YU Jun, Mr XU Jianmin and Ms LI Jiahui, showcased their research through poster presentations. They all contributed valuable insights to the discussions, highlighting the next generation of researchers in the field.
The conference provided a valuable platform for networking and collaboration. We look forward to further developments in ophthalmology and neuroscience within the Greater Bay Area.
