DOVS Faculty Members Share Insights on AI and Digital Development at National Conference

Dr Carol YL CHEUNG and Dr Mårten E BRELÉN, Associate Professors at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), were invited to participate at the 22nd Conference on International Exchange of Professionals (CIEP) (第二十二屆中國國際人才交流大會). They shared their expertise and insights on ophthalmic research and recent developments in both national and international contexts.

The CIEP, organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China (國家人力資源和社會保障部), was held in Shanghai from 1-3 November 2024, aiming to foster international collaboration among academic professionals.

In conjunction with the CIEP, ″Innovation Driven, Talent Oriented – Building a New Ecology for Global Life and Health Industry″ (構建全球生命健康事業新生態國際青年交流會) was the notable conference organized by Sun Yat-sen. This international talent exchange conference attracted over 3,000 delegates and 100 foreign academicians to join.

At this event, Dr Cheung delivered a keynote lecture entitled ″AI in Diabetic Macular Edema″, highlighting recent findings on how artificial intelligence can be effectively incorporated into detecting diabetic macular edema. Dr Brelen served as a discussion guest, providing valuable feedback and sharing his insights on digital medicine and innovations in smart ophthalmology. This fostered fruitful interactions and the exchange of ideas among participating ophthalmologists.
