Prof Clement CY THAM, our Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), has been selected as one of the first 24 esteemed individuals to be honoured ″World EyeCons in Ophthalmology of the 21st Century″. This recognition is a testament to the outstanding contributions and influential achievements of CUHK Ophthalmology in the 21st century.
Established by the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology (APJO), the World EyeCons in Ophthalmology of the 21st Century aims to honour the most influential ophthalmologists worldwide. A total of 163 nominations were received, and the shortlisted candidates underwent final evaluation by an Independent Selection Committee (ISC), comprising 31 members from 19 countries. The ISC consists of key opinion leaders (KOLs) from renowned eye institutes, journals, major regional and international ophthalmic organisations, the Hall of Fame, the Power List 100, and the APAC Eye 100 list. The World EyeCons of the 21st Century aims to reach a total of 100 Eye-Cons by the end of this century.
The inaugural award ceremony took place on 22 February 2024 at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, where Prof Tham was honoured as one of the distinguished Eye-Cons. In addition to Prof Tham, other esteemed individuals were also recognized for their exceptional contributions in research, clinical expertise, innovations, publications, and international leadership. This includes our Honorary Clinical Professor and former Department Chairman, Prof Dennis SC LAM, and our Honorary Professor, Prof WANG Ningli.
