Prof Clement CY THAM, Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Dr Poemen PM CHAN, Associate Professor, and our honorary staff, participated in the 11th World Glaucoma Congress (WGC 2025) of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA), held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, from 24-28 June 2025.
Prof Tham, a WGA Council Member and formerly a member of the WGA Board of Governors, and Dr Poemen Chan, an invited member of the WGA Associate Advisory Board (AAB), participated in several key committees within the WGA. Their involvement reflects a shared commitment to fostering international collaboration in glaucoma advancement.
While in Honolulu, the WGA 12th Consensus Meeting was held with a focus on ″Angle Closure and Angle Closure Glaucoma″. Prof Tham, and Dr Noel CY CHAN, Honorary Associate Professor of the DOVS, served as the Section Leader and invited participant in the section on Surgical Management, respectively. Dr Poemen Chan was an invited participant of three sections, covering Diagnosis and Evaluation, Medical and Laser Management, and Acute Primary Angle Closure. Throughout the whole-day meeting, consensus statements were formulated and revised.
In the rest of the WGC 2025, Prof Tham chaired two major scientific symposia, and delivered a presentation, offering valuable insights the treatment of primary angle closure disease (PACD). Dr Poemen Chan, a committee member of the WGC 2025 Program Planning Committee, presented three invited lectures, highlighting the use of innovative technologies and simplified treatment approaches in glaucoma care.
