To benefit more children and their families, the Programme has established an outreach ophthalmic team to provide children eye examination services in the communities and at the schools
The outreach ophthalmic team, comprising ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses and optometrists, provides elementary eye examination services for children
Through questionnaires, the outreach team will learn about the children′s living and reading habits, and advice or follow-up will be provided if necessary
Follow-up will be provided at the CUHK Eye Centre, if necessary. If a child′s eye health requires follow-up, the outreach ophthalmologic team will arrange for the child to attend the children′s eye service day held every weekend at the Eye Centre of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where they can receive comprehensive eye examinations and referrals to the Hospital Authority, if necessary. Additionally, the subordinate ophthalmology clinic will continue to provide follow-up care.
