We are delighted to announce the exciting news that Dr Jason CS YAM, Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), has been awarded the CUHK Young Researcher Award 2023, which recognises his outstanding achievements in ophthalmic research.
Established in 2002, the CUHK Young Researcher Award aims to honour the research accomplishments of young faculty members, specifically, full-time teachers at the rank of Assistant Professor rank or above who are under the age of 45.
Dr Yam′s is dedicated to researching on improving children′s myopia treatments. He has around 170 articles published in SCI-indexed journals. He is the principal investigator for 30 research grants and external funding of 100 million HKD. Among those, the Hong Kong Children Eye Study, the Low-concentration Atropine for Myopia Progression (LAMP 1) study and the Low-concentration Atropine for Myopia Prevention (LAMP 2) study have brought a paradigm shift of myopia control worldwide.
Of note, LAMP 2 study has been published in JAMA, and has been selected as one of the ″China′s Important Medical Advancements in 2023″.
Dr Yam said, ″I′m deeply thankful to all the guidance and mentorship from Prof Clement CY THAM and Prof Calvin CP PANG to make all this possible. This award is a recognition to our team works on children myopia work in the past decade. I′m truly grateful to the support from our Department and all our colleagues.″
