CUHK Symposium at the 34th Annual Scientific Meeting Hong Kong Ophthalmological Symposium 2022

The 34th Annual Scientific Meeting Hong Kong (ASMHK) Ophthalmological Symposium, jointly organized by The College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong (COHK) and The Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society, was held on 19 and 20 November 2022 at The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.  Prof Clement CY Tham, Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) cum the President of COHK, delivered a welcome speech at the Opening Ceremony of the ASMHK Ophthalmological Symposium.  ‶Owing to the pandemic, the ASMHK Ophthalmological Symposium was conducted online in the last two years.  I am delighted that this year we can meet in person.  I believe this event will be an ideal platform for us to foster the exchange of clinical expertise and fascinating insights of scientific research,″ said Prof Tham.

The ASMHK Ophthalmological Symposium has two world renowned experts as keynote speakers, Prof Paul HEALEY from Australia and Prof PARK Ki Ho from South Korea, to share their clinical expertise on the theme of glaucoma.  Prof Healey is the Director of Glaucoma Services at the Westmead Hospital and the Director of Glaucoma Research at the Westmead Millennium Institute.  He spoke on ‶Prepare for what lies beyond intraocular pressure″.  Prof Park is the Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology of the Seoul National University, the President of the Asia Pacific Glaucoma Society (APGS) and the President-Elect of the Glaucoma Research Society (GRS).  He shared on ‶What changes occur in the myopic optic disc and what are the risk factors of the myopic glaucoma?″

In support of the Meeting, our Department (Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, DOVS) hosted the CUHK Symposium on 19 November 2022.  DOVS Assistant Professor Dr Poemen PM CHAN and Research Assistant Professor Dr CHU Wai Kit co-chaired the CUHK Symposium on seven ophthalmology presentations.

Thanks to the enthusiastic support and participation of the DOVS academic team, the CUHK Symposium has been a valuable opportunity to exchange innovative ideas in clinical ophthalmology and advance ophthalmic research.
