We are delighted to announce that Prof Calvin CP PANG and Prof ZHANG Mingzhi were honored with the Outstanding Service in Prevention of Blindness Award 2022 and the Susruta Lecture Award 2022, respectively, by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO).
Prof Calvin CP PANG, S.H. Ho Research Professor of Visual Sciences and Director of the Shantou University / The Chinese University of Hong Kong Joint Shantou International Eye Center (JSIEC), was honored with the Outstanding Service in Prevention of Blindness Award 2022 by APAO in recognition of his achievement in preventing blindness. This award is presented to individuals or organisations that have made influential contributions to blindness prevention in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prof ZHANG Mingzhi, Honorary Professor and Vice-Director (Executive) of JSIEC, was presented with the Susruta Lecture Award (Year 2022) by APAO for her remarkable contribution to ophthalmic training and education. Since 2000, Prof Zhang has been playing a key role in advancing primary eye care services and blindness prevention in China, in particular, providing cataract surgical training to eye doctors working in rural provinces in the mainland of China.
Since the APAO 2022 Congress was held virtually in collaboration with WOC2022®Virtual last year, the Award Presentation Ceremony of APAO Awards 2022 was held at the APAO 2023 Congress. Prof Pang and Prof Zhang received their awards at the APAO 2023 Congress held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
