Ocular Health Talk: Debunk the Eye Care Myths


As part of the Hong Kong SciFest (香港科學節) 2017 program with the theme “Medicine and Health”, a free public health-care talk entitled “Debunk the Myths of Eye Care (打破護眼迷思)” was successfully held on 2nd April, 2017 at the lecture theatre of Hong Kong Science Museum.

An attending audience of over 200 joined the speaker, Dr Kelvin Chong (http://www.ovs.cuhk.edu.hk/chongkamlung/), on that Sunday afternoon. Dr Chong started by introducing common eye conditions of the elderly including presbyopia, cataract, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. He further discussed many common misunderstanding about eye diseases and eye-care. The talk ended in an enthusiastic 30-minute question & answer session.

The Hong Kong Science Museum has hosted the HK SciFest with different local tertiary institutes since 2014. Dr Chong was explaining one of the most common eye diseases (glaucoma) among the elderly to the audience.


Dr Chong was showing methods of detecting Age-related Macular Degeneration.


Dr Chong discussed common misconceptions about eye care and eye diseases to the audience.


The talk attracted more than 200 audiences to join us in debunking eye care myths.
