Hospital Authority Commissioned Training Programme 2016/17 in Ophthalmology

The Hospital Authority (HA) Commissioned Training Programme 2016/17 in Ophthalmology was held from 19 September 2016 to 23 September 2016 at the Hong Kong Eye Hospital, with Professor Shlomo Melamed as the commissioned trainer. Professor Melamed is the director of Glaucoma Institute at Sheba and the medical director at the Goldschleger Eye Institute in Tel Hashomer, Israel. Didactic lectures, case presentations and live surgeries were attended by more than 40 ophthalmologists in Hong Kong. Amongst these insightful activities, live surgeries of three cases, namely CO2 laser assisted sclerectomy, trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage device implant, were particularly enlightening to highlight.

We are also honoured to have Prof Melamed as the speaker in the Open Lecture, which was held in Cordis Hong Kong at Langham Place Hotel on 22 September 2016. His teaching on “Cornea thickness and hysteresis – how important is it in glaucoma?” and “The problem of post – LASIK glaucoma” were highly insightful and practical, and will directly benefit our clinical practice and patient care.
