CUHK Eye Centre
With a view to integrate the academic sector with the public health care service, and to meet the growing demand for ophthalmic services in Hong Kong, the CUHK Eye Centre (CUHKEC) (formerly known as the University Eye Centre, or UEC) was set up to in 1995 provide private clinical services. The research wing of CUHKEC is the CUHK Research Clinic. The CUHK Research Clinic provides a platform to conduct clinical ophthalmic research, including clinical drug trials and surgical trials. We conduct research encompassing ophthalmic imaging, electrophysiology, ophthalmic genetics, and stem cells. A number of research facilities have been set up under CUHKEC with the objectives to strengthen research and education for detection and treatment of major eye diseases. These facilities include CUHK Laser Refractive Surgery Centre, Pao So Kok Macular Disease Treatment and Research Centre, and Lim Por-yen Eye Genetics Research Centre.
The CUHK Research Clinic is also a site for Clinical Drug Trial Centre which is also the only center in Hong Kong that has been accredited by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) of the People’s Republic of China since 2006.
