Congratulations to Dr. Jason Yam for receiving the Asia-Pacific Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology Society Young Investigator Award
On October 11, Dr. Jason Yam was presented the prestigious Asia-Pacific Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology Society (APSPOS) Young Investigator Award for recognizing his significant contributions to the development of children eye care and research, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, at the Gala dinner of Inaugural APSPOS Congress.
Presently, Dr. Yam serves as the Secretary-General of APSPOS; Coordinator of the Hong Kong Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Group; Council Member (Hong Kong Representative) of International Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Council; Non-strabismus Leader of Global Consult Bureau of World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus; Committee member of Pediatric Ophthalmology Committee of Chinese Pediatric Society; and Honorary Treasurer of the Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society. He is the Congress President and Organizing Committee Chair of the Inaugural APSPOS Congress 2017. He also serves as Subspecialty Liaison of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (POS) Programme in World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) 2016 and 2018; Secretary of POS Programme of APAO Congress 2016 and 2017; External Secretary of Organizing Committee and Host Coordinator of POS programme of APAO Congress 2018, Committee member of Programme Committee of AAPOS/CAPOS Joint Conference 2017; Convener of POS in 10th International Symposium of Ophthalmology (ISO) 2014; Committee member of POS in 9th ISO 2013; and Committee member of International Advisory Committee of ARVO Asia 2017.
Being passionate in ophthalmic training and public education, Dr. Yam is currently Secretary of APAO Public Education Committee, and Committee Member of APAO Ophthalmic Education Committee, Coordinator of the CUHK Ophthalmology Undergraduate Education, CUHK Global Physician Stream Student Mentor, CUHK Year 6 Curriculum Committee Member, Coordinator of CUHK & HKEH Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship Program, Coordinator of the CUHK Ophthalmology Public Education Program, Training Sub-committee member in the College of Ophthalmologist of Hong Kong, and Committee member of Hong Kong Jockey Club Innovative Learning Centre for Medical Education Subcommittee.
On the other hand, Dr. Yam has authored more than 40 publications and 2 book chapters and co-authored 1 book. He is the principal investigator in research grants of more than 6 million HKD. He has delivered more than 50 presentations and invited lectures at international conferences. His recent awards include: APAO Achievement Award (2016), APAO Distinguished Service Award (2016), Hospital Authority Corporate Scholarship (2016), APAO Leadership Development Program Graduate (2015), and Distinguished Young Fellow in Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (2013).
